Cheetah Outreach Trust South Africa traveled to Limpopo to rescue a leopard from a trap cage. This leopard was posing a possible threat at a tourist lodge. She was killing antelope at the lodge and hiding and feeding on the carcasses in close proximity to the lodge, where visitors were during the night. We don’t support unnecessary removal of predators, as this seldom solves the predation issue, but in this case human lives were in danger. Therefore, we assisted to release this beautiful female onto a safe conservation area away from human activities. The rescue and relocation costs were covered by We Wild Africa. Our leopard work is severely underfunded. Ideally we would like to collar these relocated leopards to monitor their movements after relocation, as well as the long term success of such rescues and relocations. We are in need of at least 4 satellite tracking collars for future rescues at a cost of $2,275 each.
